Yesterday I discovered the story behind N-rays, and today I learned about Sheela na Gigs.
"Such carvings are said to ward off death and evil"
I wonder if one of those placed on the steps of my front door would be of any help to prevent religious nutters from disturbing my peace and privacy? Guess it's time to start carving. As a Bright I would view such an exercise as experimental verification (and implicitly, debunking) of pagan views, as well as having a laugh in a creative way.
Education has less to do with studying and the aquisition of skills and knowledge, but rather with indoctrination and conditioning. We as members of a supposedly free society should not be asking "what should schools teach our children?", but rather "what are we doing to our children by sending them to school?"
Of course, not every school is equal, there are differences, but the least are adapt at ad hearing to humanist values. I believe this is due to the industrial nature of institutionalized "learning", where a given and unquestioned* norm is used as a measure of "equality".
The prime institution of organized child abuse here in Australia is taking it a step further with the introduction of pre-schools for the indoctrination of Catholic dogma. All in the Jesuit spirit of laying ones hands on a child at a time, when the childs mind is most susceptible to long lasting manipulation and distortion.
