Mark Twain has for long now, been one of my favourite writers. Though I was until today unaware of his short story The War Prayer. To some might seem simplistic, the people who are ingorant of their own simplicity. Those with hope for humanity and love for their kind, who have a strong belief in justice and forgiveness, they will recognize an undeniable truth. All wars are crimes against humanity. All wars ask for unjust casualties. All wars have a fascist element, an element which in delusional belief sees fit to kill another human, due to their subjective and only to a dogmatist justifiable beliefs.
The journalist Markos Kounalakis has turned this short story into a touching animation.

A very interesting research paper, which describes the relationship between the mentioning of the "evil" word evolution and possible correlation to public perception and understanding of the concept evolution, has been published on PLoS Biology - Evolution by Any Other Name: Antibiotic Resistance and Avoidance of the E-Word. Reminiscent of the current US administration doctoring scientific reports on climate change, it seems as if science is being undermined by politics. Both the religious and special interest kind.
Then again, what can we expect from a supposedly "secular" nation, that writes on all its money and has as its national motto "In God We Trust"? The founding fathers would be appalled! I just hate to see this form of Christian fundamentalism spreading around the western world, but it is unfortunately. It's just very rare to see the real life political effects being researched, as in the article mentioned. We need more of this, and more of it being reported in mainstream media. One can [has to] dream...
